Father with baby is turned away by airline, but then he finds this letter in his pocket

He didn’t expect this reason at all! 

Stranded at the airport in a city he didn’t know with his newborn daughter because they weren’t allowed to board the flight for a reason he could have never expected. It seemed like a disaster. But this story would end up taking a totally different turn. 

Ruben Taylor was expecting just a short trip, but it turned into an adventure with emotional ups and downs. A moment in time that he will often look back on. And one, as he would later realize, with an enormous impact. 

Up until recently, Ruben went through life solo, but that all changed when his daughter was born. It wasn’t planned, but this American father was overjoyed at the prospect of becoming a father. Even though the circumstances were far from ideal. 

Ruben had a very short-lived relationship with the woman who would eventually carry his child. On top of that, she was far from being an ideal mother for the child. He had to make a very tough choice. 

Why was it better for Ruben to be a single dad?

The woman appeared to be suffering from a great deal of intense problems which made her unfit to be a mother. This is something Ruben found out much later once she was already quite far into her pregnancy. And it was all unplanned. There was only one thing he could do. 

His only option?

Ruben discussed what the situation was with friends and family and finally came to the conclusion that he wanted to raise the child on his own. Single parenting isn’t an uncommon concept, but it’s usually the mother who takes on the task. But Ruben decided to start the process of getting full custody on day 1.

It was a difficult decision, but with the support of his loved ones, Ruben started the paperwork to make his wish come true. The part that made him very nervous was the fact that he didn’t know how the mother of his future child would react. But her reaction surprised him. 

How did the mother of Ruben’s child react?

After some discussion, she agreed to Ruben’s demand. This was great news for the young American who feared that it would be a long, and tedious project. Thankfully, this wasn’t the case and the two were on their way to a beautiful life together: Ruben and his daughter. But there were still some road bumps on the horizon.

Ruben didn’t live close to the mother of his unborn child. While they lived in the same country, they were too far apart to get to each other through a quick road trip. And this distance would cause a frustrating surprise later on. But Ruben was expecting something else entirely, at first.

For months, Ruben waited nervously, but the time had finally come, and he received full custody of the child. A huge relief, to say the least. And with this knowledge, he couldn’t wait to see his child in real life for the first time. 

He did, however, come across one setback. How so?

Ruben learned that he wouldn’t be allowed to be present during the birth of his child. Due to the complicated situation, he understood why… but it didn’t make it any easier. Did it make Ruben any less excited to become a father? Not at all. Ruben couldn’t wait to see his daughter. Thankfully, it wouldn’t be long before he got an important phone call. 

What was he told on the phone?

The months were slowly going by, but it was finally time: Ruben received a call. His daughter would soon be born. Deciding whether he wanted to get ready for the flight or not took him quite a while. 

Why?

Suitcase packed, paperwork at hand, en route to the American city of Phoenix to pick up his daughter. A child that had already been given a name. Ruben had decided to name his daughter after the most important woman in his life: his grandma.

In the airplane, Ruben flipped through all the paperwork he had to take with him for legal reasons. At the top of first page stood his daughter’s name: Ru-Andrea. Partly his own name, and partly his grandma’s who had raised him for the majority of his life. The flight went smoothly, but the same can’t be said for the flight back.
